Sergeant William Walker

 

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present.

William Walker enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 6 and 16 July 1915 (No.1710).

In August 1917 he transferred to the Military Mounted Police (No.P/12206), and in May the following year to the newly formed No.2 (2nd Life Guards) Battalion, Guards Machine Gun Regiment (No.4451). At some point between 1916 and 1918 he served in France, but whether this was before or after he left the North Irish Horse is not known at present.

Walker saw further service with the Life Guards after the war (No.299416).

The medal rolls refer to the fact that Walker's medals were forfeit "on conviction by civil powers" in 1922, but that they were reissued in October 1934.
